Jammu, Feb 2 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, highlighted the importance of the current Budget Session of the Assembly, noting it as a pivotal moment to evaluate the united efforts of the union territory and to reflect on significant milestones achieved thus far.

During his introductory speech in the Assembly, the Lt. Governor remarked, “This budget session is not just about reviewing our financial resources or results; it’s about reaffirming our collective dedication to realizing the dreams and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This occasion serves as a testament to our vision for a thriving, inclusive, and resilient Jammu and Kashmir. I am immensely thankful to all citizens who are part of this transformative journey.”

The session, lasting for 27 days and spanning three months with two sittings daily, commenced with an address from the Lieutenant Governor.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also manages the finance portfolio, is set to unveil the union territory's budget in the Assembly on February 6.

L-G Sinha emphasized that this session allows lawmakers to evaluate past achievements, set future priorities, and reaffirm their collective resolve to address the aspirations of the populace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather encouraged all members to work together to ensure the House operates smoothly for the public’s benefit.

He confirmed that all preparations for the session are in place, stating that proceedings will occur in double sittings.

Congress member Tariq Hameed Karra noted that the session represents a vital chance to address public concerns, while BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa claimed it will enable members to hold the government accountable regarding budget execution and election promises.

This marks the second budget presented by the Omar Abdullah-led National Conference government since it took office on October 16, 2024.

The Budget Session is set to conclude on April 4 and will be divided into three phases: the first prior to the holy month of Ramzan, and the other two after Eid-ul-Fitr in March and April.

Ramzan is expected to commence on February 18 or 19, contingent on the sighting of the moon.

February boasts 18 working days, during which the budget for the 2026-27 financial year and the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025-26 will be presented on February 6. March and April will feature five and four working days, respectively.

Opposition parties, including the BJP, are anticipated to challenge the government regarding the fulfillment of election promises and the execution of the previous year’s budget. This session is likely to foster intense debates surrounding issues such as the regularization of daily wagers, demolition initiatives, and allegations of discrimination.
