Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Tuesday, 26 May chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room Kashmir in Srinagar, covering arrangements for both Eid-ul-Adha and the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 (SANJY-2026). The meeting brought together senior commanders from over a dozen central and state security agencies to align on deployment, logistics, and threat response ahead of two of the region's most sensitive annual events.

Agencies at the Table

The meeting drew participation from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, SSB, CISF, Traffic Police, Railways, and the 15 Corps of the Indian Army, among others. Senior officers represented included the IGP Kashmir Zone, multiple DIGs from CRPF sectors across Srinagar, Anantnag, Awantipora, Baramulla, and Bandipora, as well as the DIG Railway and the Assistant Commandant CISF Airport Srinagar. All district SSPs and PDs of Kashmir Zone were also in attendance.

Eid Security Directives

DGP Prabhat directed officers to put in place comprehensive crowd management measures at mosques and major congregation venues across the Valley ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. He emphasised the need to safeguard public movement, prevent overcrowding at sensitive locations, and deploy adequate personnel at flash points. Field officers were instructed to enhance surveillance, conduct random inspections at vulnerable sites, and step up patrolling throughout the festive period.

Amarnath Yatra Preparedness

On SANJY-2026, participating officers presented detailed briefings on security and logistical frameworks, including the induction and ground deployment of incoming Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies. DGP Prabhat directed district heads to ensure proper reception and efficient deployment of these units. He also ordered the deployment of Anti-Sabotage teams and the activation of advanced surveillance systems and real-time monitoring mechanisms along the pilgrimage routes to strengthen threat detection and response. The police chief further directed field formations to intensify efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem and reinforce area domination along yatra corridors.

SOPs and Inter-Agency Coordination

The DGP stressed strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and called for proactive strategies to counter potential threats. Officers from the CAPFs underscored the need for seamless coordination and synergy across all participating agencies. The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all agencies to maintain the highest levels of preparedness and operational efficiency to ensure a peaceful and secure yatra.

With the Amarnath Yatra drawing lakhs of pilgrims annually to one of India's most high-altitude and security-sensitive shrines, the scale of Tuesday's review reflects the administration's intent to leave no coordination gap ahead of the season.
