Jasola Residents Protest Against Neglected Roads in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 12 (NationPress) The deteriorating condition of roads in the Okhla constituency of south Delhi has led to growing dissatisfaction among local residents. On Sunday, several villagers from Jasola highlighted the increasing number of accidents attributed to potholes and water-logging.
Mohd. Shahdab, a resident of the area, shared his concerns with IANS, stating, "We have witnessed road repairs in other parts of the constituency, yet Jasola village seems to have been overlooked by our legislator, Amanatullah Khan."
He noted that accidents are common on this roadway, mentioning, "While nearby neighborhoods like Shaheen Bagh and Abul Fazal Enclave have seen repairs, the situation in Jasola remains largely unaddressed."
After rainfall, mud accumulates on the roads, making it challenging to identify potholes. Shahdab added that repair work commenced about a week ago but was abruptly halted.
“Accidents are occurring daily in this area,” he claimed.
Ameen, an e-rickshaw driver, lamented, “Our three-wheeled vehicles flip over due to the poor road conditions here. I am not alone in my complaints; everyone in Jasola village is affected by these broken roads.”
Another e-rickshaw driver pointed out that residents have endured the crumbling roads for over a year.
“The AAP legislator seems indifferent to the hardships of the community,” he stated.
“Just two days ago, an e-rickshaw overturned, resulting in injuries to the passengers,” he recounted.
Residents' grievances about the poorly maintained roads in Jasola arise amid ongoing allegations against the local legislator concerning corruption and money laundering during his tenure as the chair of the Delhi Waqf Board from 2016 to 2021.
The Enforcement Directorate is currently pursuing a case against Amanatullah Khan linked to a CBI FIR accusing him of unlawful employee appointments within the Board.
The CBI has alleged that these illegal appointments resulted in substantial financial losses to the government.
Khan was arrested on September 2, 2024, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, but he was subsequently granted bail.
