Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 5 (NationPress) The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has apprehended Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, the Chairman of Al Falah University, in relation to alleged financial and administrative irregularities, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.
This arrest follows recent actions initiated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and comes in the wake of complaints filed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding suspected violations and fraudulent activities associated with the institution.
In response to the UGC's complaint, the Crime Branch has registered two separate FIRs against Siddiqui, accusing him of fraud and other related offenses under applicable legal provisions.
Police officials reported that Siddiqui was taken into custody and subsequently presented before a Delhi court.
The court has granted the Crime Branch a four-day police custody to facilitate questioning and the gathering of additional evidence in this case.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation focuses on alleged irregularities and record falsification, with more details expected to emerge during the interrogation process.
Previously, Al Falah University came under national scrutiny when it was disclosed that Dr. Umar Nabi, who was involved in the Red Fort blast that resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals, had been employed by the institution.
Investigations also indicated that two of Nabi’s associates, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel and Dr. Shaheen Shahid, were connected to what investigators labeled a “white-collar” terror network, with both individuals also having affiliations with the university.
Last November, the university’s website was taken offline after the National Assessment and Accreditation Council issued a show-cause notice regarding an alleged false claim about its accreditation status.
The Enforcement Directorate has stated that it will examine the institution’s financial operations, including the sources of funding and monetary transactions linked to its medical and administrative staff, as part of the ongoing investigation.
