Patna, Oct 3 (NationPress) Sanjiv Kumar, the current MLA representing the Parbatta Assembly constituency from JD-U, is poised to switch allegiance to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), as confirmed by former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Friday.
Tejashwi stated, “Sanjiv Kumar, our sitting MLA, will formally join our party. We are heading to Parbatta in Khagaria district for the event. With his addition, our party’s strength in the area will significantly increase.”
This development is considered impactful, especially since Tejashwi himself plans to be present in Parbatta for Kumar's induction, highlighting the significance of this switch.
Previously, Sanjiv Kumar had hinted to his supporters in his home turf about his impending move from JD-U to RJD.
Kumar's decision arises amidst his well-documented rebellious tendencies within the JD-U.
He notably caused a stir during the floor test of the Nitish Kumar government in February 2024, arriving late to the Bihar Assembly.
Reports indicated that he was in neighboring Jharkhand and had been stopped by police while attempting to cross back into Bihar in Nawada district.
Although he ultimately voted in favor of the Nitish Kumar administration, this incident painted him as a dissenter within JD-U.
He was not the only one exhibiting dissent; Bima Bharti, another JD-U MLA from Rupauli in Purnea, also took a stand against the party during the same vote.
In contrast to Kumar, Bharti resigned from JD-U, joined RJD, and ran for the Lok Sabha from Purnea on an RJD ticket, although she lost to independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav.
She also unsuccessfully contested the subsequent Rupauli by-election.
Both of these leaders are anticipated to run in the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections under the RJD banner - Sanjiv Kumar from Parbatta and Bima Bharti from Rupauli - indicating RJD's strategy to fortify its presence by welcoming discontented JD-U members.
RJD is actively seeking to recruit more leaders from opposing parties.
