Patna, March 5 (NationPress) As Nitish Kumar prepares to submit his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections, there is rising speculation that this action could signal the conclusion of his nearly two-decade-long leadership in Bihar. In light of these developments, JD(U) supporters congregated outside Kumar's official residence in Patna on Thursday, chanting slogans in his favor.

The party members voiced their discontent regarding rumors of Kumar potentially resigning from his Chief Ministerial role to transition to the Rajya Sabha. The assembly quickly escalated into a protest, with supporters preventing party leader Krishna Murari Sharan from entering the Chief Minister’s residence.

Numerous party workers expressed their dissatisfaction with the prospect of Kumar stepping down, asserting that the electoral mandate in Bihar was established under his leadership.

In an interview with IANS, a JD(U) member stated, “We campaigned in every village under the banner of Nitish Kumar. Since this news broke, Holi celebrations were absent. We believe Nishant Kumar should be sent to the Rajya Sabha, while Nitish Kumar continues the work for which the people chose him.”

Another supporter reiterated this sentiment, emphasizing that the people's mandate must be respected.

“The mandate given in 2025 was for Nitish Kumar, and we demand that this mandate should not be betrayed,” the worker declared.

If Nitish Kumar transitions to the Upper House, it would represent a significant shift in Bihar's political dynamics. For the first time in years, the state could witness a Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The speculation surrounding Kumar's potential resignation has left political analysts bewildered, especially since he was sworn in as Bihar’s Chief Minister for the tenth time only four months ago. Additionally, there are rumors about his son, Nishant Kumar, potentially starting his political journey, a proposition that Nitish Kumar had previously resisted.

Political experts suspect that this potential leadership change may be part of a strategic plan formulated by the BJP and its ally JD(U), keeping future political scenarios in consideration.

Nitish Kumar, affectionately known as “Susashan Babu,” is 75 years old and has represented governance in Bihar for many years. However, in recent times, various videos from his public engagements have gone viral, leading the opposition, spearheaded by Tejashwi Yadav and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, to question his health.

Meanwhile, political discussions in Bihar are rife with speculation regarding who may step in as the next Chief Minister. Among the potential candidates being discussed are Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Union Minister Nityanand Rai, and Bihar Minister Dilip Kumar Jaiswal.
