Political Turmoil in Bihar: Nitish Kumar Submits Rajya Sabha Nomination Amid JD(U) Protests
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 5 (NationPress) In a significant political turn in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday. Alongside him, other candidates from the ruling coalition, including Nitin Nabin, Shivesh Kumar Ram, and Upendra Kushwaha, also filed their nominations on the same day.
Senior leaders from the NDA were present during this crucial moment, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who made a trip to Patna from New Delhi.
While this nomination signifies a pivotal moment for Nitish Kumar, it has led to unrest among some members of the Janata Dal (United). Demonstrators gathered outside the Chief Minister’s residence, chanting slogans against the BJP and accusing them of plotting to marginalize Nitish Kumar.
As Amit Shah departed with Nitish Kumar, JD(U) workers protested by shouting “Down with Amit Shah,” claiming that the BJP is attempting to undermine the party through a strategy they refer to as 'Operation Lotus'.
Previously, a BJP minister in the Bihar government encountered protests and had to exit the area amid the clamor.
Supporters of JD(U) alleged that there was pressure on Nitish Kumar to transition to national politics, asserting that the BJP aims to take direct control of Bihar, despite the Assembly elections being held under Nitish Kumar's name.
In response to these developments, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav stated that the public sentiment is against a shift in leadership and accused the BJP of already devising a plan to oust Nitish Kumar.
Tejashwi referred to the campaign slogan that promoted Nitish Kumar's leadership until 2025 and questioned the decision to move him to the Rajya Sabha without any public consultation.
He further alleged that the BJP employs tactics to weaken its allies before asserting political control.
Quoting instances from other states, he suggested that similar political shifts have taken place in alliances involving Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, and Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab.
Nitish Kumar's nomination to the Rajya Sabha indicates a major transformation in Bihar's political dynamics.
While the NDA leadership appeared unified during the nomination process, the unrest among JD(U) workers and the strong reactions from the opposition imply that the forthcoming days may hold significant political ramifications for the state.
