Ranchi, July 6 (NationPress) A government worker in Jharkhand has faced suspension following the widespread circulation of a video featuring him smoking a cigarette within a government office. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, expressing strong disapproval of such behavior, emphasized that indiscipline in government settings will not be accepted under any circumstances.
"Should any government employee be found breaching workplace decorum or regulations, they will face stringent consequences," the Chief Minister cautioned.
The incident took place at the Jagannathpur block office in the West Singhbhum district, where Jagmohan Soren, a public servant (Jan Sevak), was seen on camera nonchalantly smoking a cigarette at his workstation.
K. Deoraj Hessa, a user on social media, shared on X on July 5: "In the Jagannathpur block office of West Singhbhum district, an official is smoking at the desk while preaching about love. Please take cognizance of the matter and take action as per law."
The video, depicting Jagmohan Soren blowing smoke rings without regard for his environment, quickly attracted backlash after being disseminated across social media platforms. The individual who posted the video tagged the Chief Minister, urging for immediate disciplinary measures.
In a prompt response, Chief Minister Hemant Soren instructed the Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum district to take swift action and provide a report that same day.
Following the CM’s directives, the district administration acted decisively. By Sunday, the Deputy Commissioner reported to the Chief Minister that Jagmohan Soren had been suspended effective immediately under Clause 9(a) of the Jharkhand Government Servant (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 2016.
Moreover, the Deputy Development Commissioner has been tasked with initiating formal disciplinary proceedings against Jagmohan Soren.
This incident marks one of the initial occurrences in recent months where a government employee in Jharkhand has been suspended for such conduct.
