Jammu, June 14 (NationPress) - The J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) reported on Saturday that they successfully apprehended a police head constable in the Kathua district while he was in the act of accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. However, the accused cop managed to escape from the scene.
According to ACB officials, a complaint was lodged alleging that head constable Roshan Din from Police Station Kathua, who is involved in investigating case FIR No. 193/2025, demanded an illegal payment from the complainant to remove his name from the list of accused. The complainant had already provided CCTV footage and attendance records to establish his innocence.
“Initially, the accused requested a bribe of ₹25,000 from the complainant for the removal of his name from case FIR No. 193/2025. After negotiations, the demand was reduced to ₹15,000.
“The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB to initiate legal proceedings against the public servant,” stated an official.
Upon receiving the complaint, a discreet verification confirmed the bribe demand from the public servant. Consequently, a case FIR No. 12/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Jammu, and an investigation commenced.
“During the investigation, a trap team led by a Gazetted rank officer was formed. The team effectively ensnared the public servant, who, after accepting the bribe amount of ₹15,000 from the complainant, fled the scene upon sensing ACB’s presence, discarding the tainted money in the bushes along NHW near Palli. The illicit cash was subsequently recovered from the bushes by independent witnesses and seized in the ongoing case.
“A search of the accused’s residence was also carried out with the presence of magistrates and independent witnesses. However, the accused remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing,” the official added.
