New Delhi, Feb 26 (NationPress) Mahua Maji, a Rajya Sabha MP and leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), suffered injuries alongside her son Somvit Maji, daughter-in-law Kriti Srivastava Maji, and driver Bhupendra Baskey in a road mishap while returning from the Maha Kumbh on Wednesday.
The incident unfolded as they headed back to Ranchi after their pilgrimage to Prayagraj for the sacred dip.
The accident took place in the Latehar Sadar police station jurisdiction of Jharkhand. All those injured were promptly taken to Orchid Hospital in Ranchi for medical care. Doctors reported that their conditions are stable and they are out of immediate danger.
The crash transpired around 3:45 a.m. on Wednesday when Somvit Maji, who was driving their Scorpio, allegedly dozed off at the wheel.
The vehicle collided with a stationary truck in the vicinity of Hotwag, located on National Highway 75 in Latehar. Mahua Maji was seated directly behind the driver during the incident.
Medical personnel indicated that Mahua Maji incurred a fractured left wrist and a minor chest bone crack. Somvit Maji experienced only minor injuries and is currently recuperating well following initial treatment.
Upon hearing about the accident, local police from Latehar arrived promptly and transported the injured individuals to Latehar Sadar Hospital. After receiving primary care, they were transferred to Ranchi for further treatment. Mahua Maji sustained the most severe injuries in this unfortunate event.
In light of her injuries, numerous JMM leaders, state ministers, and other officials visited Orchid Hospital to offer their support.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren extended his wishes for her swift recovery, and BJP state President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi also expressed hopes for her quick recuperation.
Marandi shared on the social media platform X, "I have received news of JMM’s senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji being injured in a road accident. I pray to God for her speedy recovery."
