New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) BJP President JP Nadda on Wednesday conveyed his profound condolences to the family of veteran soldier Havaldar (Retd) Baldev Singh, who passed away at the age of 93 in his home in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir.
Havaldar (Retd) Baldev Singh, a warrior who valiantly fought in four wars against Pakistan, died on Monday. His final rites were conducted with full military honor and protocol at his hometown of Naunihal, in Nowshera, on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Nadda stated, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Havaldar Baldev Singh (Retd), a cherished war hero who dedicated his life to the nation. His remarkable service and courage were honored during his lifetime, and his legacy will forever be etched in the annals of Indian Army gallantry. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
Born on September 27, 1931, in Naunihal village, Singh volunteered for the Bal Sena Force under Brigadier Usman, the leader of the 50 Para Brigade, at the age of just 16 during the battles of Naushera and Jhangar in 1947-48.
The Bal Sena, a group of young boys aged 12 to 16, served as dispatch runners during critical moments of these battles. In recognition of their bravery, the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru honored the Bal Sainiks with gramophones, watches, and the chance to enlist in the Army.
Hav Baldev Singh officially joined the Army on November 14, 1950, and dedicated nearly three decades of service marked by valor and commitment. His illustrious career included participation in the 1961, 1962, and 1965 India-Pakistan wars.
Although he retired in October 1969, Singh was called back during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, serving with the 11 JAT Battalion (25 Infantry Division) for an additional eight months before returning to civilian life.
Throughout his service, Hav Singh received numerous accolades, including recognition from Nehru, current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice-President Hamid Ansari, and various other esteemed leaders.
