Is the Custodial Death Case of B. Ajith Kumar Finally Seeking Justice?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madurai, Feb 5 (NationPress) The mother of B. Ajith Kumar, a temporary temple security guard who lost his life due to alleged custodial torture last year, has called for the urgent arrest of the woman whose theft accusation led to his arrest, following the conclusion by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that her son was indeed innocent.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, B. Malathy expressed that the family has finally gained a sense of justice after the CBI informed the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court that Ajith Kumar had not committed any theft of jewellery.
Nevertheless, she emphasized that those who wrongfully implicated her son must also be brought to justice.
"That woman... Nikitha, must be the first to be arrested. We need to uncover who influenced her to file such a complaint and the reason behind her false report. My son was innocent, yet he died like a criminal. Those five police officers deserve to remain in jail," Malathy stated, visibly emotional during the press conference.
The incident dates back to June 27, 2025, when Nikitha, a resident of Thirumangalam, visited the Madapuram temple with her elderly mother. She allegedly requested Ajith Kumar's assistance in parking her vehicle.
Later that day, she reported at the Thirubuvanam police station claiming that ten sovereigns of gold jewellery had gone missing from a bag in her car.
Ajith was subsequently taken in for questioning, during which he tragically died, with his family alleging severe custodial abuse. Malathy claimed her son was treated "like a terrorist," alleging he was hung from a tree, beaten, and denied water during his detention.
"They used chilli powder for torture. Is there any law that permits such acts?" she questioned.
The family’s legal counsel mentioned that Justice Srimathi has instructed the CBI to present a detailed report by February 17. The agency has reportedly prepared a 90-page chargesheet affirming Ajith's innocence and evaluating the involvement of police officials and the complainant.
Furthermore, the counsel alleged that the theft accusation was a "pre-planned fabrication" aimed at extorting jewellery.
Four other young men – Naveen Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Arun, and Vinoth – were also allegedly detained and tortured. One suffered a ruptured eardrum, while another lost his source of income due to the stigma.
Six police officers, including a driver, are currently undergoing legal proceedings.
The family has appealed to the government for employment opportunities for Ajith’s brother and for safer rehabilitation support.
