Bengaluru, May 2 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara expressed his outrage over the tragic murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru, vowing that those responsible will face justice and calling on the community to maintain tranquility.
“We will not spare the killers,” Parameshwara emphasized during a press briefing in Bengaluru.
“I urge the citizens of Mangaluru to remain calm. The government is with you, and law enforcement is fully dedicated to upholding order,” he stated.
The minister revealed that he had dispatched the ADGP (Law and Order) to the crime scene and requested a comprehensive report.
“An investigation is already in progress. We are implementing all necessary measures to avert further incidents,” he added.
Shetty was brutally murdered on the night of May 1 while driving with friends in a vehicle within the Bajpe police jurisdiction. The assailants, armed with machetes and swords, approached in two cars and launched a surprise attack.
“Mangaluru was on the path to normalcy, but the recent mob lynching and this murder have profoundly unsettled the area,” Parameshwara remarked. “We have established four specialized teams to apprehend the suspects, and they will be captured shortly.”
In response to the bandh call from Hindu groups, the Minister stated, “We are actively working to ease tensions. Regardless of the backgrounds of those involved, we will ensure justice is served.”
Addressing accusations from the BJP regarding appeasement politics, Parameshwara stated, “We do not endorse any form of violence. It is our responsibility to maintain peace and order. We will not evade this duty.”
When confronted with claims that Hindus are being targeted under Congress leadership, he responded, “Does Congress not have Hindu members? Are we not Hindus ourselves? This is a criminal matter -- we will apprehend those accountable. Adding a communal or political dimension is inappropriate.”
Suhas Shetty, affiliated with Bajrang Dal, was previously implicated in the murder of Mohammad Fazil, a Suratkal resident killed in broad daylight on July 28, 2022. This murder was allegedly in retaliation for the death of BJP activist Praveen Kumar Nettaru.
Nettaru was murdered during the height of the hijab controversy in Bellare, near Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district -- an incident that sparked a wave of revenge killings and stabbings across the state.
Shetty had recently been released on bail in the Fazil murder case.
