New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) The central government has officially approved the appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta, a judge from the Allahabad High Court, to serve as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
According to a notification from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, the President has exercised powers under Article 217(1) of the Indian Constitution to appoint Justice Gupta as the Chief Justice, effective from the date he takes charge.
This appointment will be effective once the current Chief Justice, Guhanathan Narendar, retires on January 9.
The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, recommended Justice Gupta's elevation during a meeting on December 18, 2025, following the retirement of Justice G. Narendar.
Justice Gupta was born on October 9, 1964, and graduated with a law degree from Lucknow University in 1987. He began his practice as an advocate on December 6, 1987, specializing in civil, rent control, and constitutional law.
He became an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on April 12, 2013, and was sworn in as a Permanent Judge on April 10, 2015. Currently, he serves as a senior judge in the Allahabad High Court and is a member of its Administrative Committee.
