Hyderabad, July 14 (NationPress) Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh has officially been named the new Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court.
This transition comes after the Union government transferred him from his position as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on Monday.
The transfer recommendation was put forth by the Supreme Court Collegium on May 28.
Justice Singh will take over from Justice Sujoy Paul, who has been moved to the Calcutta High Court.
Previously, Justice Singh was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court on April 17, 2023, and served as the acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court in 2022.
Born on July 7, 1965, Justice Singh has a BA Honours and an LLB from the University. He comes from a family steeped in judicial tradition; his maternal great-grandfather, the late B.P. Sinha, served as the sixth Chief Justice of India.
Justice Singh commenced his legal journey in 1990, enrolling as an advocate and practicing at the Patna High Court for a decade. After the establishment of the Jharkhand High Court in 2001, he continued to practice there until his elevation to the bench.
On January 24, 2012, Justice Singh was appointed as an additional judge of the Jharkhand High Court and became a permanent judge on January 16, 2014.
In April 2021, he assumed the role of executive chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority.
Justice Singh acted as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 20, 2022, until February 19, 2023, prior to his swearing-in as Chief Justice of Tripura High Court on April 17, 2023.
The Union government also approved transfers for Chief Justices of the Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Madras High Courts on the same day.
