Hyderabad, July 19 (NationPress) Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh officially took the oath of office as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on Saturday. This significant appointment follows a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium on May 28, which was subsequently approved by the Union government.
On Monday, the Union government facilitated the transfer of Justice Singh, who previously served as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court, to the Telangana High Court.
Justice Singh steps in to fill the position previously held by Justice Sujoy Paul, who has now been assigned to the Calcutta High Court.
Having taken the oath as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court on April 17, 2023, Justice Singh has a rich background in the judiciary. In 2022, he served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court.
Born on July 7, 1965, Justice Singh earned his BA Honors and LLB degree from the University of Delhi and comes from a lineage of legal professionals; his maternal great-grandfather, the late B.P. Sinha, was the sixth Chief Justice of India.
Justice Singh embarked on his legal journey in 1990, practicing as an advocate at the Patna High Court for a decade. After the establishment of the Jharkhand High Court in 2001, he continued his practice until he was appointed to the Bench.
On January 24, 2012, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Jharkhand High Court, becoming a permanent judge by January 16, 2014.
In April 2021, he assumed the role of executive chairman of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority.
Justice Singh served as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court from December 20, 2022, until February 19, 2023, before taking over as the Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.
