New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) The Government on Friday released notifications concerning the transfer of Justices Chandra Dhari Singh from the Delhi High Court and Arindam Sinha from the Odisha High Court, following the recommendations put forth by the Supreme Court Collegium.

“Utilizing the authority granted by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consulting with the Chief Justice of India, is delighted to transfer Justice Chandra Dhari Singh, Judge of the Delhi High Court, to serve as a Judge at the Allahabad High Court and to instruct him to take charge of his new role at the Allahabad High Court,” stated a notification from the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.

In November of the previous year, the Supreme Court Collegium had suggested the repatriation of Justice C.D. Singh back to his original High Court, namely, the Allahabad High Court.

Additionally, in a separate notification, the Government on Friday revealed that the President, after consultation with the CJI, was happy to transfer Justice Arindam Sinha, a Judge of the Orissa High Court, to the Allahabad High Court. The Supreme Court Collegium, during its meetings on March 6 and 20, had recommended Justice Sinha's transfer to the Allahabad High Court.

“The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meetings on March 6, 2025, and March 20, 2025, has advocated for the transfer of Justice Arindam Sinha, Judge of the High Court of Orissa (PHC: Calcutta), to the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad,” indicated a statement published on the apex court's website.

According to the current Memorandum of Procedure (MoP), the process for transferring High Court judges begins with the CJI in cooperation with four of the most senior judges of the Supreme Court, commonly referred to as the Collegium.

The MoP also stipulates that the CJI should consider the opinions of the Chief Justice of the High Court from which the judge is being transferred, as well as the Chief Justice of the High Court to which the transfer is being made, in addition to the perspectives of one or more Supreme Court judges who can provide insights.
