Hyderabad, Jan 15 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu has officially appointed Justice Sujoy Paul as the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court. Justice Paul, who is presently serving as a judge of the High Court, will take over from Justice Alok Aradha, who has been reassigned as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

The Ministry of Law and Justice of the Government of India has released orders confirming this appointment. Justice Paul holds the position of the seniormost judge within the Telangana High Court.

He is expected to take his oath as the new Chief Justice in the coming days.

Born on June 21, 1964, Justice Paul completed his B.Com, MA, and LLB. He was enrolled in the Madhya Pradesh Bar Council in 1990. His early education was at Pandit L.S. Jha Model Higher Secondary School, and he graduated with a Post Graduation and LL.B from Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

He began practicing law as an Advocate in 1990 in the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh, specializing in Civil, Constitutional, Industrial, and Service Law among others, appearing in various courts.

On May 27, 2011, Justice Paul was elevated to a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur and became a permanent judge on April 14, 2014.

In February of the previous year, Justice Paul requested the Supreme Court's collegium to transfer him from the Madhya Pradesh High Court due to his son practicing in the same court.

Following this request, the Supreme Court's collegium transferred him to the Telangana High Court, where he took his oath as a judge on March 26, 2024. Justice Alok Aradhe was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on July 19, 2023, and took his oath on July 23, 2023. He had previously served as the acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
