Patna, January 7 (NationPress) Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo took the oath on Wednesday to become the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

The oath was administered by Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan during a ceremony at Lok Bhavan, marking him as the 47th Chief Justice of the court, according to officials.

The event saw the presence of notable figures including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, state cabinet members, judges from the Patna High Court, and various other esteemed guests.

Justice Sahoo's appointment was officially reported by the Union Law Ministry on January 1, following the President's endorsement.

Prior to this role, he served as a judge at the Odisha High Court.

On December 18, 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Sahoo for the position during its meeting.

Currently, Justice Sudhir Singh is acting as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court after the retirement of Justice Pavankumar Bhimappa Bajanthri in October.

Born in 1964, Justice Sahoo has a notable legal background. He completed his matriculation at Nayabazar High School in Cuttack and earned a Bachelor of Science from Stewart Science College, followed by a Master’s degree in English and Odia from Utkal University.
