"Today marks Kanyashree Day. The Kanyashree project celebrates its 12th anniversary today. Congratulations to all the Kanyashree women globally, nationally, and throughout Bengal. I believe no other government initiative has created such a significant impact on women's empowerment in society within such a short period! Its popularity is reflected in its receipt of the United Nations Public Service Award, ranking first among 552 entries from 62 nations," said Banerjee.
The Kanyashree Prakalpa is a focused conditional cash transfer scheme designed to combat child marriage and encourage girls to stay in school and other educational institutions.
In 2017, Kanyashree Prakalpa earned the highest recognition from the United Nations, securing first place for Public Service.
"I firmly believe that a society where women do not thrive can never truly prosper. Empowering women is crucial for societal development. I take pride in the fact that there are now over 93 lakh Kanyashree women in our state. Seventeen and a half thousand crore taka has been disbursed to them under this initiative. We don’t just speak about women’s empowerment; we actively pursue it," she stated.
The Chief Minister concluded by saying, "I urge all Kanyashree women to strive for growth in life and enhance the reputation of our country and state. One day, you will build a remarkable Bengal and wear the crown of respect in the world."
