Kolkata, Dec 9 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, voiced her opposition on Tuesday against the newly established eligibility criteria by the Union Government concerning the 100-day job scheme under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
During an anti-Special Intensive Revision (SIR) rally in Cooch Behar, she vehemently criticized the draft of the Centre's revised conditions, tearing it apart as a symbol of her dissent.
"Recently, we received a notification regarding the new labour code. The Union Government has set forth new stipulations for the eligibility of the 100-day job scheme. I find these stipulations unacceptable and derogatory. Hence, I am ripping this document. For me, it is not a central notice but merely a worthless sheet of paper," the Chief Minister proclaimed.
She also indicated that the West Bengal government is still awaiting central funds totaling ₹51,617 crore from the Union Government for the implementation of the 100-day job scheme.
"I’m not concerned with central funding. If the Trinamool Congress wins the upcoming Assembly elections, we will launch our own 100-day job scheme," she asserted.
Simultaneously, she urged the local Trinamool Congress leaders in Cooch Behar to avoid internal conflicts and divisions.
"In times of struggle, unity is paramount. You must work together to provide services to the public," she emphasized.
She announced that the Trinamool Congress will establish 'May I help you' camps across the state to assist citizens facing challenges in ensuring their names are included on the voters' list during the SIR process.
"These camps will be set up in every village panchayat. Their primary objective will be to support the community," the Chief Minister concluded.
