Chennai, April 2 (NationPress) CPI(M) senior leader and party Politburo coordinator Prakash Karat emphasized that only the Left possesses the ideological resilience and dedication necessary to effectively confront the surge of Hindutva forces in India.
During his inaugural address at the 24th Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), held in Madurai on Wednesday, Karat highlighted that while the party aims to build the broadest possible coalition of secular forces to oppose the BJP, it is the Left that consistently stands as a formidable and unyielding entity in this endeavor.
“The Left is uniquely positioned to spearhead the battle against both Hindutva and imperialist agendas in our nation,” Karat stated, stressing the necessity for a steadfast opposition to neo-liberal policies as a vital component of resisting Hindutva-inspired majoritarianism.
He cautioned that the BJP and RSS are actively exploiting sub-caste identities to maintain the caste system as a core aspect of Indian society.
Karat accused that “manuvadi” principles are being subtly woven into the social and cultural framework of the country, thereby reinforcing outdated hierarchies.
“The struggle against the manuvadi-patriarchal system, which compromises the rights of women, Dalits, and Adivasis, is a crucial part of our larger fight against the Hindutva agenda,” he asserted.
Karat stressed that the party’s political strategy must embody a holistic approach to counter the BJP-RSS and the broader Hindutva forces.
While the CPI(M) and other Left entities have been engaged in various movements, he observed that the participants will only become genuinely politicized with a robust and ongoing campaign against reactionary and divisive Hindutva communalism.
He also highlighted the escalating threat of global imperialism, particularly from the US under President Donald Trump.
Karat predicted that the US would increase its use of economic and trade wars, along with military interventions, to exert dominance over other nations.
“Now is the moment for the CPI(M) and the broader Left to amplify anti-imperialist efforts and unveil the pro-imperialist policies of the PM Modi-led administration,” Karat stated.
Looking forward, Karat mentioned that one of the primary aims of the Congress would be to find methods to fortify the CPI(M) as an autonomous political entity.
He underscored the significance of fostering grassroots movements centered around class and mass issues, and the need to optimize the party structure to broaden its influence nationwide.
“A systematic and strategic initiative is essential to develop the party at the grassroots level and ensure it transforms into a vehicle for the people’s struggles concerning everyday concerns,” he concluded.
