Bengaluru, March 4 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP brought attention to the FIR lodged against BJP MLA Vedavyas Kamath during a session in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, condemning the Congress-led government for its police misconduct.

The incident occurred during a religious gathering at the Sri Krishna Bhajana Mandir in Mangaluru on Monday, escalating into what is claimed to be a political and physical confrontation, resulting in FIRs against both parties, including one naming MLA Vedavyas Kamath. The complainant alleged that Kamath urged his supporters to inflict harm upon him.

During the zero hour, senior BJP MLA Arvind Bellad highlighted that despite Kamath's innocence, an FIR was filed based on a Congress worker's complaint. Bellad called for the government to explain its intentions behind this action.

Opposition Leader R. Ashoka accused the government of establishing a 'goonda raj' and stated that filing FIRs without substantial evidence was intolerable. BJP General Secretary and MLA V. Sunil Kumar questioned how lawmakers could execute their responsibilities under such circumstances.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath asserted that he did not instigate or engage in any violence. “Does the police have any video evidence or CCTV footage to substantiate my supposed wrongdoing? If the allegations against me are validated, I will leave the session,” he challenged.

In response, Home Minister G. Parameshwara remarked that FIRs aren't filed arbitrarily. However, he acknowledged that if an FIR was improperly lodged, it would be a police error. “I will collect all relevant information by tomorrow and provide clarity on this issue,” Parameshwara committed.

Meanwhile, the BJP Mangaluru city South Mandal organized a protest outside the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Mangaluru denouncing the FIR against Kamath. BJP MP Brijesh Chowta, who led the protest, criticized the Congress government for targeting elected officials.

When Congress MLC Ivas D’Souza threatened that Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot would meet a Bangaldesh-like fate for approving the prosecution against CM Siddaramaiah, the police sought a legal opinion for potential action. However, when complaints were lodged by anti-social elements against MLA Kamath, the police acted immediately without seeking clarification, MP Brijesh accused.
