Is There a Need for a Judicial Probe into the Hubballi Incident Involving Karnataka BJP?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 8 (NationPress) The BJP has alleged that the Karnataka Police stripped a female party worker in Hubballi, prompting a demand for a judicial investigation into the incident.
During a press conference, the Karnataka BJP accused the police of acting like Dushasana, thus bringing disgrace to the entire state.
For context, Dushasana is a key antagonist from the Hindu epic 'Mahabharata', known for his infamous attempt to publicly disrobe Draupadi in the Kuru court after the Pandavas lost her in a dice game.
Opposition leader R. Ashoka emphasized that there is no assurance for women's safety under the current Karnataka administration.
Previously, during the Belagavi Assembly session, a Dalit woman suffered stripping and assault, and a minor girl was raped in Mysuru recently.
“Now, in Hubballi, the police themselves have stripped and assaulted a woman,” Ashoka stated.
“In the Mahabharata, Dhritarashtra was blind and Gandhari had blindfolded herself. Similarly, here Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is blind to these issues, and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has chosen to ignore them. The police's actions mirror Dushasana's disgraceful behavior. This incident exemplifies the collapse of law and order,” Ashoka alleged.
“The Chief Minister has prematurely judged the situation by claiming the woman removed her own clothes. In the case of the Ballari firing incident, the CM initially stated that an investigation was underway but later alleged that a Congress worker's gun was involved,” he added.
“Before asserting that she removed her own clothes, the investigation report should have been completed. If the Chief Minister issues verdicts prior to the report, it pressures the police to conform their reports accordingly. This suggests a conspiracy to obscure the truth,” Ashoka claimed.
“It is implausible for a woman to remove her clothing with 20 policemen present in the van. A local Congress corporator influenced police actions against her,” he asserted.
“I have lodged complaints with the Human Rights Commission and the Women’s Commission. Shockingly, the police have filed a case against the assaulted woman. The Inspector and all involved police personnel must be suspended by 10 am on January 9. I will lead a protest in Hubballi; if not, we will label this as a Dushasana government,” he warned.
“Members of the State Women’s Commission have prematurely defended the police, claiming they provided the woman with clothing. This conclusion was drawn even before the investigation concluded,” Ashoka stated.
“The police conducted the raid as if targeting terrorists. The woman has not engaged in any activities deemed anti-national,” he remarked.
“This act was executed under the direction of a Congress corporator,” Ashoka asserted.
“Only the Home Minister and the Chief Minister have the authority to convene meetings with police officers. The Deputy Chief Minister lacks such authority. This is a breach of constitutional protocol,” he stated.
Ashoka has communicated this matter to the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women.
