Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hubballi, Jan 9 (NationPress) A delegation from the BJP visited the home of a party worker in Karnataka's Hubballi on Friday, who has reportedly been stripped and assaulted by police following a complaint from a Congress councillor regarding a disagreement related to the voter revision process. The BJP assured the victim's family of seeking justice.
The delegation, headed by R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, was joined by Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, and MLC Bharati Shetty, as they visited the victim's home to express their support.
In a media statement, R. Ashoka highlighted that the incident involving the woman being stripped in Hubballi has gained national attention, leading many to seek the truth about the events that transpired.
Ashoka challenged the assertion that the woman had undressed voluntarily. He questioned, "If that was true, why were 40 policemen present? With the police van being theirs, and law and order under their control, why wasn't the situation prevented?"
Ashoka accused the police of acting like Dushasana, alleging that they assaulted the woman and stripped her of her clothing.
He called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter and criticized the State Women's Commission's remarks from Bengaluru, which suggested that nothing had occurred. He noted that the National Commission for Women had issued a notice regarding the case.
He raised concerns over the excessive police presence during the arrest of the woman worker, asking, "Did it really require 40 officers to apprehend one individual? Who authorized this?"
Furthermore, he demanded the immediate suspension of the police inspector involved and all personnel present in the police van until the inquiry concludes.
During the visit, Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy mentioned that a councillor had filed a complaint requesting the arrest of BJP worker Sujatha Handi.
He stated, "What transpired when the inspector brought several individuals for the arrest must be thoroughly investigated and disclosed by the police."
Narayanaswamy also claimed that a currently circulating video was recorded several years ago when the Congress councillor and Sujatha Handi were together, asserting, "This video clearly reveals the Congress party's true nature. Members of Congress should be wary of their leaders, as they may exploit recorded videos for blackmail."
He cautioned Congress workers to remain vigilant, alleging that party leaders engage in blackmail tactics using videos of their own members.
