Bengaluru, Jan 7 (NationPress) In response to the alleged attack on a BJP worker by the Karnataka police, the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Nagalakshmi Choudhary, stated that the police provided clothing for both her and the BJP worker, who has numerous cases registered against her.

During a press briefing in Bengaluru on Wednesday, she remarked, “There exists a complaint against the woman, prompting the police to attempt her arrest. She is currently facing several cases. Upon being placed in the police vehicle, she removed her clothing. Accompanied by her mother and brother, her brother recorded the incident. A review of the video reveals the presence of only female police officers.”

Choudhary continued, “The police provided her with clothing, and she was subsequently placed in judicial custody. I have communicated with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Hubballi. We cannot draw conclusions without verifying the facts. Should any wrongdoing on the part of the police be established, we will advocate for appropriate measures. According to police accounts, the woman removed her clothing, and the video was later disseminated.”

“I will write to the Superintendent of Police to request a comprehensive report on this serious incident,” she added.

She emphasized that commenting without understanding the roles of either the police or the victim would be inappropriate. “I will demand a thorough investigation, and those responsible must face consequences. The police have questioned why no footage exists showing police involvement in her stripping. They have also pointed out the multiple cases against her. The police claim the woman loosened her clothes before entering the vehicle and subsequently stripped inside,” she stated.

This incident of alleged assault and stripping of a BJP woman worker occurred in Hubballi, Karnataka, reportedly related to a dispute from a voter revision initiative. A video of the event emerged on Wednesday, triggering widespread shock and concern.

The footage reportedly depicts male police officers assaulting the woman and using inappropriate language.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Keshvapur police station in Hubballi. Reports indicate that BJP worker Sujatha Handi, also known as Vijayalaxmi Handi, was allegedly attacked following a complaint filed against her by Hubballi-Dharwad Congress corporator Suvarna Kallakuntla.

Sujatha Handi is alleged to have been targeted after she engaged in voter mapping as part of the voter list revision process. It is reported that the corporator was incensed by this and lodged a complaint against her at the Keshvapur police station.

During the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, a conflict reportedly arose when Sujatha Handi accompanied election officials in the process. Congress corporators and their supporters allegedly stirred controversy by referencing an old case during the revision.

Suvarna Kallakuntla, who filed the complaint against Sujatha Handi, alleged that she had influenced SIR-BLO officials and led to the removal of voters’ names from the list. Previously, there had been reported conflicts between BJP and Congress workers over similar accusations.
