Bengaluru, June 10 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, R. Ashoka, along with the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, visited the residence of Bhoomik, a young man from Belur taluk in the Hassan district, who tragically lost his life in the stampede during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory celebrations. They extended their condolences to the grieving family and promised them justice.

During the visit, R. Ashoka conversed with Bhoomik's father, D.T. Lakshman, emphasizing that while a life lost cannot be restored, they are committed to ensuring that justice prevails.

Later addressing the media, R. Ashoka noted that the death of Bhoomik has inflicted deep sorrow on the family. He pointed out that although about 30 individuals work on their land, providing a stable financial situation, the loss of their only son is irreplaceable.

"Many, including this family, believe that if the RCB celebrations had been delayed by a few days, this tragedy could have been averted," he remarked.

He further stated, "The cricket festivities have caused significant pain to many. It is imperative that justice is served for these tragic losses," Ashoka stressed.

R. Ashoka reiterated that no parent should have to endure such a heartbreaking situation, highlighting the need to prevent similar tragedies in the future. He pointed out, "There was a clear indication from the police against holding the event, which was ignored. A thorough investigation is essential, and we will persist in our pursuit of justice," he asserted.

In an emotional plea, Bhoomik's father, Lakshman, questioned, "Why didn’t the government recognize that hosting such an event with a massive crowd was inappropriate? Our children have lost their lives. While the government has provided compensation, will that truly help us?"

He expressed gratitude towards R. Ashoka and the other leaders, stating, "These leaders have been supportive since the very first day after my son's death. Their response was driven by humanity rather than politics, as they took immediate action to assist us in our time of need."

Furthermore, he clarified that the visit from the BJP leaders was not politically charged. "They have been with me from the outset, offering genuine support. The media can verify with all the families of the victims how they reached out and facilitated arrangements for the deceased," he explained.

Point of View

I believe this tragic incident calls for a thorough investigation and accountability. The loss of life during celebratory events raises critical questions about safety protocols and government responsibility. It is essential that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
