Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 3 (NationPress) In a deeply disturbing incident from the Belagavi district of Karnataka on Tuesday, a 13-year-old girl was forcibly taken into a sugarcane field and subjected to rape.
Authorities have apprehended two suspects in connection with this heinous act.
The arrested individuals, identified as Manikantha Dinnimani and Iranna Sankammanavar, are accused of perpetrating the crime, with one allegedly assaulting the girl while the other acted as a lookout.
This tragic event unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Muragoda police station. Reports indicate that the victim, a seventh-grade student, was abducted and raped while returning home from a flour mill.
The crime occurred after the victim was dragged into a sugarcane field, and the revelation of this incident was delayed due to threats issued to the victim's family.
According to the police, Dinnimani and Sankammanavar committed this atrocity a mere 300 meters from the victim's home while she was on her way back from the mill. Following a complaint filed on December 1, the Murgod Police promptly registered a case and apprehended the accused.
Belagavi SP Bhimashankar Guled commented on the situation, stating, "In her complaint, the victim indicated that one of the suspects committed the assault, while the other was on guard."
He further added, "Upon receiving the complaint, law enforcement swiftly took the suspects into custody. A female officer has been assigned to oversee the investigation. The suspects will soon be presented before the court."
Regarding the delay in reporting the incident, the SP remarked, "We will investigate the reasons for the late report. Victims often experience shock and may initially hesitate to speak out due to fear of social stigma."
He reiterated that the timing of the report does not diminish the crime's severity. "The act has occurred, preliminary investigations confirm this, and the accused have been taken into custody," he stated.
"We will provide protection to the victim if necessary. The police have no intention of compromising the case. Especially in cases under POSCO, we are diligent. This incident is not subject to compromise, and law enforcement will not engage in such behavior," he concluded.
