Bengaluru, March 2 (NationPress) R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and a prominent BJP figure, stated on Monday that processions supporting Ayatollah Ali Khamenei should be prohibited, labeling him a "dictator".

In response to protests across Karnataka following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ashoka asserted that such demonstrations should not be tolerated.

While addressing a press briefing in Bengaluru, he remarked: "Khamenei was a dictator. There was significant internal dissent against his regime. Atrocities were committed against women, and thousands lost their lives. Yet, in several regions of India, including Bengaluru, Muslims have rallied in support of Khamenei."

Ashoka emphasized the need for legal action against those who "took the law into their own hands" during these protests.

He also highlighted that India enjoys strong ties with Israel and upholds a balanced stance in its foreign policy. "India does not oppose any nation. I believe that war should be avoided. The Central government has never endorsed conflict," he stated.

Ashoka urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to consult with Union ministers to ensure the safety of Kannadigas stranded overseas.

“The Modi government is diligently working to facilitate the return of Kannadigas trapped in various countries. The Central government has previously succeeded in repatriating Indians in similar predicaments, and we are committed to ensuring everyone's safe return this time,” he asserted.

In a related development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the US' "unwarranted" assault on Iran on Sunday.

While criticizing the US actions, he remarked that while the United States advocates for peace on one front, it simultaneously engages in warfare, calling this a contradictory position.

He also expressed his condolences and prayed for the eternal peace of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's soul, who was reportedly killed.

Members of the Shia community, including in Bengaluru, organized protests in various regions of the state against Khamenei’s killing.
