BJP Condemns Congress-DMK for Protests Supporting Iran's Khamenei
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 4 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu expressed strong disapproval of the Congress party and its coalition partner, DMK, labeling their recent protests as instances of political hypocrisy and anti-national behavior. This statement follows demonstrations in Chennai that were held in remembrance of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died due to US-Israel airstrikes on February 28.
A.N.S. Prasad, a spokesperson for the Tamil Nadu BJP, claimed that these protests on March 1 and 2 showcased a misguided political agenda that could potentially harm India’s national interests.
Prasad pointed out that the attempt by certain protestors to march towards the United States Consulate in Chennai during Prime Minister Modi's visit was reckless and could have disrupted public peace.
The BJP argued that such actions directed at foreign diplomatic facilities were inappropriate and could adversely affect India’s reputation on the global stage.
Additionally, Prasad accused Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, of making comments that undermined the Indian government's stance regarding developments in West Asia.
He contended that these statements were politically motivated and jeopardized national unity at a time when the government was focused on ensuring the safety of Indian citizens in the region.
Emphasizing the government's diplomatic efforts, Prasad noted that Prime Minister Modi had engaged in urgent discussions with leaders from several Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan to safeguard Indian nationals amidst rising tensions in West Asia.
He further highlighted that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed that the protection of Indians abroad is a paramount concern for the government.
Prasad mentioned that authorities are already implementing precautionary measures to assist Indian citizens in troubled areas. A recent relief flight carrying 149 Indians from Dubai successfully arrived in New Delhi, while Indian students in Tehran have reportedly been relocated to safer areas under the supervision of the Indian Embassy.
He further asserted that the protests led by opposition parties and specific groups demonstrated selective outrage, especially when compared to their reactions to other instances of international violence against civilians.
The BJP urged the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government to maintain law and order, ensuring that protests do not escalate into actions that could jeopardize diplomatic missions or communal peace.
The party reiterated its backing for the Union government's diplomatic strategies and underscored the importance of national unity during international crises affecting Indian citizens abroad.
