Bengaluru, Jan 30 (NationPress) The Congress-led administration in Karnataka has released an official notice advocating for the utilization of khadi among government officials in honor of the 77th Republic Day, celebrated on January 26.

On Thursday, the state government called upon its officials to don khadi attire on the first Saturday of each month.

The Chief Secretary of the state, Shalini Rajneesh, issued this directive emphasizing that "Khadi" transcends mere clothing; it stands as a representation of our nation's dignity and pride. Currently, khadi weavers are innovating to create garments with contemporary designs. Additionally, the production of khadi plays a crucial role in sustaining the rural economy, providing both direct and indirect employment opportunities for thousands of rural spinners and weavers within the state.

"In light of the recent Republic Day celebrations and with the aim of re-establishing the connection between public service and the struggle for our nation's freedom, the state has made a significant decision to encourage the adoption of khadi. Consequently, it is requested that all officials and employees across state government, aided institutions, corporations, boards, autonomous bodies, and universities 'voluntarily' wear khadi on the first Saturday of every month, and to instruct their teams to wear khadi during all official government events, including Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations," added Rajneesh.

She further noted that the government anticipates this initiative will cultivate respect for local products, strengthen unity, foster national spirit, enhance sense of Indianness, self-respect, and a commitment to social responsibility among government personnel.

The government order includes a link detailing the names, addresses, and products of 176 active khadi associations and institutions operating throughout all districts in the state.

The directive has been disseminated to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Secretaries of the state government.

This initiative by the Congress-led government has garnered positive feedback and appreciation from government employees and various segments of society in Karnataka.

Additionally, this move is expected to benefit the weaver community and state-owned khadi production centers.
