Karnataka: Wife Kills Husband to Protect Daughter from Assault

Belagavi (Karnataka), Jan 2 (NationPress) A woman has been taken into custody in the Belagavi district of Karnataka for allegedly killing her spouse. She stated that her actions were to safeguard their daughter from an attempted sexual assault by her husband, as confirmed by police on Thursday.
The tragic event occurred in the village of Umarani near Chikkodi within the Belagavi district. The man who lost his life, identified as Srimantha Itnale, was reportedly killed by his wife, Savithri, following his alleged attempt to sexually assault their daughter.
As per police reports, Srimantha, known for his abusive conduct and excessive drinking, made an attempt to sexually assault his own daughter. Unable to endure the situation any longer, Savithri allegedly intervened and fatally struck him with a heavy object.
In an effort to conceal the crime, she dismembered his body and discarded the remains in a nearby field. Police investigations indicated that she attempted to mislead investigators by attributing the crime to an outside group.
Savithri also cleaned the crime scene and concealed the weapon used. Villagers later stumbled upon the body and alerted the police, which led to her arrest.
During interrogation, she confessed to the crime, asserting it was to protect her daughter. The Chikkodi police have detained Savithri and are continuing their investigation.
According to police accounts, the accused was frequently intoxicated and often quarreled with his wife. He would demand money for alcohol and insisted that she purchase a motorcycle for him.
Furthermore, Srimantha coerced his wife into engaging in sexual activities with others for financial gain, claiming it was necessary for their family. After his attempt to rape their daughter, Savithri could no longer tolerate his actions and ultimately bludgeoned him to death, police reported.
She also disabled her deceased husband’s mobile phone and instructed her daughter not to disclose any information regarding the incident to anyone.
This case has drawn attention to the critical domestic issues that some families endure, emphasizing the urgent need for accessible support systems and protective measures for women and children in precarious situations.
