Belagavi, Dec 17 (NationPress) Former Union Minister and prominent BJP figure A. Narayanaswamy has issued a stark warning that the absence of effective internal reservation in promotions could lead the marginalized Madiga communities and their sub-castes to consider overthrowing the government.
During a press conference on Wednesday, he urged the legislature to introduce an amendment concerning the reservation implementation in promotions. He emphasized that Madigas have previously showcased their electoral strength.
When asked, Narayanaswamy pointed out that states like Haryana, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu already have reservations in promotions, asserting that Karnataka should follow suit. He mentioned his involvement in this movement for the past two decades.
The BJP leader accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of misleading the populace after he promised internal reservation for Madiga sub-castes in his election manifesto but failed to deliver post-election.
Narayanaswamy noted that while the Supreme Court has set a 50 per cent cap on reservations, it has also stated that states can exceed this limit if necessary. He referred to Chhattisgarh, which raised its reservation to 58 per cent, and highlighted the Supreme Court's ruling that lifted the High Court's stay on this increase.
He remarked that the winter legislative session is currently in session and that internal reservation should be a primary topic of discussion.
Expressing his discontent over 35 years of struggle for internal reservation in Karnataka, he lamented the lack of justice despite multiple commission reports, including the Sadashiva Commission report, Madhuswamy report, and Nagamohan Das report.
Present at the press conference were MLAs Duryodhan Aihole and Basavaraj Mattimadu, SC Morcha state vice-president Hudi Manjunath, along with leaders Ananth, Satyaprasad, Rajendra, Siddu, Ramesh, Ajith, Mohan, and Prashanth.
