Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hubballi (Karnataka), Jan 27 (NationPress) Union Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently ensured equitable budget allocations to all states, including Karnataka. He emphasized that this year's Union Budget will continue to prioritize just distributions.
During a media briefing in Hubballi on Tuesday, Joshi remarked that the central government has focused on various sectors such as infrastructure, industry, railways, airports, agriculture, and manufacturing.
He pointed out that the NDA government has accomplished developmental projects in five years that the Congress could not achieve in 60 years, particularly enhancing the railway and manufacturing sectors nationwide.
According to Joshi, the PLI scheme under the Modi administration is fostering industrial and manufacturing growth, while he accused Rahul Gandhi of misrepresenting the achievements of his tenure.
The Modi government has significantly contributed to Karnataka, especially in railway projects, with expectations for even larger budget allocations for the state this year.
Joshi highlighted the drastic increase in budget allocations, stating, "Previously, allocations were only around Rs 700– Rs 800 crore, but now we are looking at Rs 8,000 crore. Isn't that a substantial boost for the state?" He affirmed that the budget would be equitable for all states, including Karnataka.
He also reiterated the Union government's commitment to the Mahadayi project, acknowledging existing challenges but assuring that efforts are being made to overcome them without politicizing the matter. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also expressed the need for a solution. Once the Wildlife Board approval is secured, progress will continue smoothly, according to Minister Joshi.
Joshi expressed optimism about the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (India–EU FTA), viewing it as a valuable opportunity for Karnataka’s development. This agreement is expected to enhance Karnataka's exports and stimulate industrial growth by providing preferential access to European markets.
Exports from the Bengaluru–Tumakuru region, particularly in engineering, electronics, and pharmaceuticals, are anticipated to rise, supported by the state's robust MSME sector.
Key industries such as medical devices, chemicals, textiles, and garments are expected to benefit significantly. The agreement will enhance global competitiveness and value chains, with reduced duties and improved market access boosting garment exports from Bengaluru, Joshi added.
“This agreement will not only enhance skill-based industries but also foster job creation in labour-intensive manufacturing sectors. Ultimately, it provides Karnataka with a solid platform for improved global trade connections, sustainable exports, increased investments, and job creation,” Union Minister Pralhad Joshi concluded.
