Karnataka Opposition Accuses Congress of Supporting Water Tanker Mafia
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 23 (NationPress) The Congress-led administration is being criticized by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashoka, for allegedly supporting the water tanker mafia by neglecting the urgent need for borewell repairs in Bengaluru. Speaking during a press conference in Bengaluru, Ashoka stated, "This situation stands as a clear example of how the Congress-led Karnataka government has allied itself with the tanker mafia. The Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, is showing a blatant lack of interest in addressing the repairs of borewells to benefit the tanker mafia."
He further mentioned that the government's failure to repair borewells has driven citizens into hardship, particularly by exacerbating water scarcity issues. The Congress government, according to Ashoka, has degraded itself to the point of profiting from the public's suffering.
In his remarks, Ashoka directed criticism at Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, questioning his integrity after he labeled a significant portion of Bengaluru's population as dishonest in national media. "Why haven’t the borewells been repaired over the past two years? How much commission is the government receiving from the tanker mafia? What is the Congress party's share in this arrangement?" Ashoka probed.
As summer approaches, water demand is escalating across Bengaluru, leading many residents to express dissatisfaction with the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Official statistics reveal there are 15,761 public borewells and over four lakh privately owned borewells in the region.
Criticizing the state's financial management, Ashoka highlighted that various corporations lack sufficient funding, with some receiving only minimal amounts. He stated, "Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who frequently invokes 'AHINDA' when his position is threatened, has accomplished nothing in the past three years except neglecting development corporations aimed at Scheduled Castes and backward communities."
He posed a rhetorical question to CM Siddaramaiah, asking, "Is this your concept of social justice? Is this the concern you profess to have for the impoverished, Scheduled Castes, and backward communities? The public will respond to the Congress-led Karnataka's betrayal of trust in the upcoming days," Ashoka concluded.
