Chennai, Oct 13 (NationPress) The AIADMK and the BJP expressed their approval on Monday regarding the Supreme Court’s directive for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the tragic Karur stampede that resulted in 41 fatalities on September 27. They also applauded the establishment of a three-member committee to supervise the progress of the investigation.
In a social media statement, the AIADMK reaffirmed its commitment to the principle upheld by the apex court — that every individual deserves a fair and unbiased investigation.
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done,” the party emphasized.
BJP state chief Nainar Nagenthran expressed his gratitude for the CBI investigation, which had been a consistent demand from the BJP. In a post on X, he stated, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Supreme Court,” criticizing the DMK government for allegedly attempting to fabricate narratives to deflect blame and tarnish the reputation of opposition parties.
He asserted, “Soon, the truth will be uncovered, revealing the abhorrent political motives behind these actions. Those despicable individuals who sacrificed innocent lives for their political agendas will face severe consequences.”
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan echoed this sentiment, characterizing the verdict as “a slap in the face of the DMK government.” In his post on X, he accused the DMK of conducting a “malicious campaign” against the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
“This ruling reinstates public confidence that the truth will surface and justice will prevail,” he stated.
G.K. Vasan, president of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), shared similar views, asserting that the court’s ruling would help clarify the confusion following the incident. “The political maneuvering after the tragedy created uncertainty among the populace. We had called for a CBI investigation to ensure the truth is unveiled,” he noted.
Former AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala also described the ruling as a “stinging rebuke to the DMK administration.” She proclaimed, “The truth regarding the Karur stampede will soon be revealed, and those accountable will not escape justice.”
The Supreme Court previously ordered the transfer of the investigation to the CBI and appointed a committee led by former apex court judge Ajay Rastogi to oversee the probe’s advancement.
