Srinagar, June 19 (NationPress) A total of ninety-four students from Jammu and Kashmir were successfully evacuated from Iran and have safely arrived in Delhi. While expressing their gratitude towards the Centre for the assistance, the students voiced their concerns regarding the substandard buses provided by the Omar Abdullah government for their journey back home to the union territory from the national capital.
Upon boarding the buses for J&K in Delhi, several students shared images on social media, highlighting the poor condition of the buses made available for their return.
In response to these grievances, the office of J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on X, “The Chief Minister has acknowledged the concerns raised by the students evacuated from Iran regarding the quality of buses arranged for their transport from Delhi to J&K. The Resident Commissioner has been assigned to collaborate with the JKRTC to ensure that appropriate deluxe buses are provided.”
Earlier, CM Omar Abdullah mentioned on X, “Ninety-four of our students evacuated from Iran have safely arrived in Delhi. The government is arranging transport for their seamless journey home, which will be organized within the next few hours.”
The Chief Minister had previously reached out to Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, requesting assistance for the safety of J&K students stranded in Iran.
Kashmiri Shia leader and MP, Aga Syed Ruhullah, had reported that a hostel occupied by Kashmiri students was hit by an Israeli strike, resulting in some students suffering minor injuries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has coordinated efforts to evacuate all Indian students from Iran and ensure the safety of Indian professionals in various fields, including medicine and engineering.
Many Kashmiri students are enrolled in medical studies in Iran. The Valley has a significant Shia Muslim population that shares close religious ties with the predominantly Shia Muslim majority of Iran.
Historically, numerous Shia scholars from Kashmir have pursued their religious education in Iran. Both Sunni and Shia Muslim leaders in Kashmir have condemned the Israeli attacks against Iran.
