Alappuzha, March 25 (NationPress) The office of Congress MP and party general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal has filed a police report regarding the establishment of a fraudulent Facebook account posing as him.
The complaint was lodged by K. Sarath Chandran, Venugopal's personal secretary, at the district police chief's office in Alappuzha, Kerala.
The report highlights, “I wish to draw your esteemed attention to the fact that an unknown person has created a counterfeit Facebook account impersonating Sri. K.C. Venugopal, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. This issue came to our attention just the day before yesterday. It seems that the general public is being deceived into thinking that this fraudulent account is the official one, resulting in friend requests, interactions, and communications based on false pretenses.”
“This impersonation not only harms his reputation but also presents a significant risk of misinformation and potential abuse. Given the circumstances, I respectfully urge your immediate action to identify and take strict legal measures against the individual(s) responsible for this deceitful act. Additionally, I request that necessary steps be taken to block the fake account promptly to prevent any further misuse. I have faith in your esteemed office to act swiftly in this matter,” the report states.
Venugopal represents the Alappuzha Lok Sabha constituency but originates from Kannur.
He has served in the Alappuzha Assembly constituency three times until 2009.
In the 2009 general elections, he was nominated to contest the Alappuzha Lok Sabha constituency, winning the seat and subsequently vacating the Assembly position.
He ran again in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and emerged victorious, but in 2019 he announced his intention not to contest the seat, leading to a CPI(M) candidate's victory.
Nevertheless, in 2024, he was nominated once more from Alappuzha and achieved success.
Recently, Venugopal has been a prominent critic of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the CPI(M) in general.
