New Delhi, May 15 (NationPress) The National Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal, accompanied by Raghav Chadha and three other prominent party figures, had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Thursday. This meeting was part of the Election Commission's ongoing initiative to tackle issues regarding electoral rolls, voter ID cards, and EVMs.
This session was part of a series of discussions the Election Commission of India (ECI) is conducting with leaders from various national and state political parties. It also aimed to address Kejriwal’s allegations concerning the manipulation of EVMs, which he claimed resulted in a 10 percent increase in votes for the BJP.
In the lead-up to the Assembly elections in Delhi this past February, Kejriwal reported that voters expressed concerns about pressing the AAP symbol on the EVMs only to find their votes redirected elsewhere.
“I encourage voters to participate in large numbers to boost our vote share by 15 percent, which will help us recover from the 10 percent loss attributed to EVM tampering,” Kejriwal stated in a video released just two days prior to the elections.
During Thursday’s meeting, the CEC, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, engaged with Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj, Pankaj Gupta, and N.D. Gupta.
“These discussions fulfill a long-standing necessity for constructive dialogue that allows party leaders to share their insights and worries directly with the Commission,” remarked an official from the EC.
This initiative aligns with the Commission's overarching goal of enhancing the electoral process in line with the current legal framework through comprehensive discussions with all stakeholders.
Previously, the Commission had met with delegations from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, on May 6, followed by a delegation from the BJP led by party President Jagat Prakash Nadda on May 8, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on May 10, and the National People's Party on May 13.
In addition to these high-level discussions, the Commission has conducted a total of 4,719 all-party meetings at various levels nationwide, including 40 convened by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), 800 by District Electoral Officers (DEOs), and 3,879 by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), collectively involving over 28,000 representatives from diverse political parties.
