New Delhi, Oct 31 (NationPress) AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has intensified her criticisms against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asserting that a 'Sheesh Mahal' of even greater grandeur than the one in Delhi has been constructed in Punjab, which is governed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She also claimed that state resources are being misused for Kejriwal's personal benefits, including his travel arrangements.
Maliwal took to the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “After Delhi's Sheesh Mahal was vacated, Arvind Kejriwal has established a more splendid Sheesh Mahal in Punjab.”
She alleged that Kejriwal has been granted a lavish “seven-star” government residence, arguing that its allocation is 'illegal and illegitimate' for someone who does not hold an official public position, hence shouldn't be entitled to such luxurious accommodations.
“Arvind Kejriwal has been assigned an opulent 7-star government bungalow spanning 2 acres in Sector 2, Chandigarh, from the Chief Minister's quota,” she remarked.
Maliwal further accused the Bhagwant Mann government of repurposing the state machinery to cater to the party leader's needs, citing an instance where a private jet was allocated for Kejriwal's travel to Gujarat.
“Yesterday, he boarded a government helicopter from in front of his residence to Ambala. From Ambala, a private jet of the Punjab government transported him to Gujarat for party-related activities. The entire Punjab government is consumed in serving one individual,” the AAP Rajya Sabha MP stated.
This isn't the first instance where Kejriwal has faced backlash for perceived extravagance. The BJP has consistently criticized him and the AAP, labeling their governance style as reminiscent of “Sheesh Mahal”.
The term “Sheesh Mahal” is commonly used by the BJP to reference Kejriwal's official residence, which underwent costly renovations during his leadership.
Maliwal has repeatedly invoked the “Sheesh Mahal” term to spotlight Kejriwal and the AAP, accusing them of favoring luxury over effective governance and neglecting the worsening civic conditions in Delhi.
In January 2025, Maliwal organized a prominent protest, collecting litter from ignored neighborhoods in Delhi and dumping it outside Kejriwal’s residence to draw attention to the capital’s escalating sanitation issues.
The “Sheesh Mahal” controversy resurfaced in May 2024 when Maliwal alleged that she was assaulted by Kejriwal’s personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar, at the Chief Minister's residence.
