New Delhi, Oct 31 (NationPress) Describing it as Sheesh Mahal 2.0, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Virendra Sachdeva vehemently criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly owning a luxurious bungalow provided by the Punjab government.
"Arvind Kejriwal, you need to respond. What is this Sheesh Mahal 2.0? Are you planning to exploit Punjab as you did with Delhi?" Sachdeva questioned in a video message.
He demanded clarification from Kejriwal regarding whether the Sheesh Mahal model is now targeting Punjab, a state that symbolizes national pride, for corrupt practices.
"I've heard that Kejriwal occupies a multi-crore bungalow in Punjab, which surpasses the cost of the one he constructed in Delhi," the Delhi BJP Chief remarked.
Sachdeva urged the former Delhi Chief Minister to explain how he secured a seven-star facility Sheesh Mahal in Punjab under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's allocation, despite not holding any elected position in the state.
"Kejriwal must address questions about his affinity for bungalows, which he seems to have imported from Delhi to Punjab. Is he intending to exploit Punjab just like he did with Delhi?" he added.
The Delhi BJP President also raised concerns about the criteria used to allocate the two-acre, seven-star bungalow located in Chandigarh's Sector-2.
"As far as I know, Kejriwal is merely the National Convenor of a National Party, and he has already been provided a bungalow in Delhi. His obsession with bungalows is puzzling," Sachdeva said.
The term Sheesh Mahal is politically coined by the BJP to reference Kejriwal's former Chief Minister's residence at 6 Flag Staff Road in north Delhi, which they claim resembled a palace.
Allegations have surfaced against the AAP leader regarding the misuse of public funds for extravagant renovations of the bungalow, including items like toilet fixtures, curtains, televisions, and personal gyms, which are typically found in royal palaces.
The BJP asserts that the Sheesh Mahal in Delhi symbolizes corruption and lavish spending during AAP's tenure — a stance that contributed partly to the AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections earlier this year.
The recent discourse around Kejriwal's palatial Punjab bungalow gained momentum after AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal publicized it through social media.
Maliwal tweeted, "After vacating Delhi's Sheesh Mahal, Arvind Kejriwal has established an even more magnificent Sheesh Mahal in Punjab."
She alleged that Kejriwal was granted a lavish seven-star government bungalow, implying its 'unlawful and unauthorized' distribution to someone without any public office, and thus, ineligible for such accommodations.
