This article explores the implications of these actions on his political credibility.

Key Takeaways

  • Kejriwal's actions have raised questions about his political integrity.
  • The controversy surrounding the Sheeshmahal significantly impacted public perception.
  • Acquiring a government bungalow could jeopardize AAP's credibility.
  • The citizens of Delhi are increasingly skeptical of political promises.
  • Political accountability remains a critical issue for leadership in India.

New Delhi, Oct 7 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, remarked on Tuesday that the citizens of Delhi and the broader nation have observed former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal completely forsaking the political principles he once championed during the India Against Corruption movement and the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections.

“Controversies such as the liquor scam and others paved the way for the collapse of the Kejriwal government. However, the most significant factor was the unlawful and immoral construction of the opulent “Sheeshmahal” bungalow amidst the COVID period,” he stated.

Questioning the legitimacy of the Sheeshmahal's construction and the liquor scandal, he said, “Is this the same Arvind Kejriwal who, prior to the 2013 elections, submitted an affidavit promising not to accept a government bungalow or vehicle if elected, and declared that any MLA or minister implicated in corruption would be expelled from the Assembly?”

He continued, asserting that, troubled by the Sheeshmahal and the liquor scandal, the people of Delhi removed Kejriwal from power on February 8, 2025.

“Ironically, just eight months after being expelled from the Sheeshmahal, on October 7, Kejriwal leveraged his position as the AAP leader to acquire one of Delhi’s largest government bungalows at 95 Lodhi Estate for himself,” he emphasized.

Directly targeting Kejriwal for “finally satisfying his persistent desire by taking over a one-acre government bungalow,” Sachdeva pointed out that, “in doing so, he has also squandered whatever little political credibility he had left in the eyes of the public.”

“The people of Delhi and the country are astonished to see that the same Kejriwal who, in 2013, had sworn in an affidavit not to accept a government residence, is now so enamored with bungalows that he filed an affidavit in court claiming to be the AAP chief to secure a mansion larger than an acre,” he stressed.

The President of Delhi BJP indicated that while the Sheeshmahal led to Kejriwal’s ousting from Delhi’s leadership, acquiring a bungalow like 95 Lodhi Estate could potentially result in his party losing its national party status.

Point of View

I believe it’s crucial to examine political leaders through the lens of accountability and integrity. Arvind Kejriwal’s recent actions raise significant questions about his commitment to the principles he once stood for. The nation deserves transparency from its leaders, and it’s essential we hold them to their promises.
