New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal proclaimed his party's leadership in adopting the 'guarantee' approach in politics as he unveiled 15 election promises under 'Kejriwal ki Guarantee'. These promises feature guaranteed employment for the youth, a monthly support of Rs 2,100 for women, issuance of new ration cards, and the cancellation of excessive water and electricity bills.
Additionally, Kejriwal introduced a new initiative providing Rs 1 lakh for the weddings of daughters belonging to auto, taxi, and e-rickshaw drivers in the capital, along with Rs 10 lakh life insurance for these drivers.
Presenting the final manifesto for the upcoming February 5 Assembly elections, the former Chief Minister acknowledged his inability to deliver on prior promises made in 2020 regarding the cleaning of the Yamuna, ensuring 24X7 clean drinking water, and constructing roads to European standards.
“I admit that we could not accomplish these tasks due to Covid-19 and our team's imprisonment. These three projects are my aspiration, and we will strive to achieve them in the next five years as we have a solid plan and the necessary funding,” stated Kejriwal.
He cautioned voters that the BJP would discontinue free welfare programs if elected in Delhi, emphasizing, “Casting the 'Jhaadu' button in the upcoming election will enable monthly savings of Rs 25,000 for every family in the city.”
“If this saving is halted, many impoverished families, including those in the middle class, may be compelled to leave the city,” Kejriwal asserted, claiming that families currently save Rs 10,000 monthly due to free education for children, Rs 5,000 from the free electricity scheme, Rs 2,000 from complimentary water, Rs 5,000 through free healthcare, and Rs 2,500-Rs 3,000 from the free bus travel initiative for women.
Kejriwal promised that the 'Mahila Samman Yojana' would be enacted in the first Cabinet meeting of the new AAP government, noting that 'Jhaadu' symbolizes the goddess of wealth, Laxmi.
“When you press the 'Jhaadu' button on the EVM and have around two women in your family, you will receive an additional Rs 4,000 every month, on top of the Rs 25,000 monthly savings,” Kejriwal explained.
The additional commitments reiterated in the 15 'Kejriwal ki Guarantee' promises included the eradication of the tanker mafia, free electricity for tenants, Rs 18,000 monthly for priests and granthis, prompt repair of overflowing and blocked sewers within 15 days post-government formation, and the replacement of outdated sewer lines within one year.
“During my imprisonment, they performed such a substandard job that it resulted in blocked sewers. I will prioritize the repair of these issues,” Kejriwal asserted.
He also reaffirmed previous pledges of financial aid and scholarships for underprivileged students, free travel for students in DTC buses, a 50% discount on Metro fares, free pilgrimages for senior citizens, and the Sanjeevani health insurance for all residents over 60.
Kejriwal emphasized that all commitments made in the 'Kejriwal ki Guarantee' will be in addition to the existing six 'revaris' (incentives) already provided by the AAP government, which include free electricity, water, education, pilgrimages, free bus travel for women, and free medical services.
This latest set of promises from the AAP follows just two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the BJP’s 'Sankalp Patra-part 3', which outlines welfare initiatives targeting various voter demographics, including women, students, slum residents, auto and taxi drivers, and middle-class refugee families from Pakistan.
The elections to select 70 new Delhi legislators will occur on February 5, with results announced on February 8. The outgoing Assembly comprises 62 AAP MLAs and 8 BJP MLAs.
As the AAP strives for a fourth consecutive victory, the BJP seeks to regain power after a 27-year absence. In the 2020 elections, the AAP garnered 54% of the vote share, while the BJP secured 39% and Congress obtained 4%.
