S. Sreejith, the Additional Director General of Police, balances his demanding role with a passion for music that has crossed borders.
The other notable cultural figure is Sunil G. Cherukadavu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police currently serving in the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. At 51, he has emerged as a talented lyricist, achieving success in both the film industry and beyond.
In an interview with IANS, Sreejith shared that he has lent his voice to several Malayalam films, with more projects awaiting release.
"Time is a constant challenge for me to pursue my passion for singing, as my primary obligation is my job. Nevertheless, I strive to honor my passion. Next month, I will participate in a classical music event alongside prominent figures in the field," stated Sreejith, who is also recognized for his analytical skills in solving various cases.
Cherukadavu recounted that he began writing during his college years. He mentioned that while serving as a Circle Inspector in the state capital years ago, he was approached to compose a song for a school.
"That was my first experience, and I owe my gratitude to musician Parthasarathy Master for his invaluable support and encouragement. Since that moment, I have penned over 200 works, predominantly songs and poems," shared Cherukadavu.
"I've written lyrics for several Malayalam films and was thrilled when Sreejith Sir agreed to perform one of my songs. A few films featuring my lyrics are slated for release. My job often involves travel, which fuels my creativity and provides inspiration for my lyrics," added Cherukadavu.
Meanwhile, Sreejith, after a brief period away from policing, has returned to the Police Headquarters, where he has initiated plans to establish a Police orchestra team, recognizing the untapped talents of many individuals in khaki.
"The Himachal Pradesh Police has implemented proactive programs to showcase the creative talents within its ranks, and I am optimistic that the Kerala Police will soon follow suit in nurturing and promoting its in-house talents," Sreejith concluded.
