Itanagar, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, expressed his sincere appreciation on Thursday for the Assam Rifles and the community members for their prompt and brave actions during a devastating landslide that claimed the lives of two workers and left three others injured in Tirap district.
In a post on social media platform X, CM Khandu stated: “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Assam Rifles and the courageous locals of Lapnan Village, Khonsa for their immediate and brave response during the tragic landslide that occurred on Wednesday.”
“Your swift actions and teamwork saved lives amid great peril. A special acknowledgment goes to the troops who risked their own safety to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble and to the villagers whose timely assistance was crucial. Our thoughts are with the families of the two laborers who tragically lost their lives.”
“I also wish a speedy recovery to the three laborers who are presently under medical care. Let this incident serve as a reminder for us to remain vigilant during the ongoing rainfall and in areas prone to landslides,” the Chief Minister added.
A disaster management official reported that two workers were killed and three others sustained injuries when a significant mudslide struck their construction site at Lapnan Village in Tirap district on Wednesday.
The official detailed that the landslide, caused by earth cutting at the construction site, ensnared five workers under the debris. Troops from the Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force, and State Disaster Response Force quickly arrived at the scene and conducted a rescue operation with the help of local residents.
Sadly, two laborers, identified as Pangkai Sankioam (25) and Jaong Pansa (18), both hailing from Kamhua Noksa village in Longding district, lost their lives after being buried under a substantial mound of earth, as per the official.
Meanwhile, three workers – Panpho Pansa, Phongoi Pansa, and Chingngam Pansa – were successfully rescued and transported to Dibrugarh in nearby Assam for urgent medical care.
A Defence spokesman noted that the quick and coordinated efforts of Assam Rifles, operating under Spear Corps, in conjunction with the CRPF, SDRF, and local community, resulted in the successful evacuation of those trapped under the mud, who were then moved to the hospital after receiving first aid.
The Spear Corps and Assam Rifles remain committed to supporting the people of Arunachal Pradesh in such trying situations, he concluded.
