Kolkata, Feb 18 (NationPress) A collaborative effort by the Special Task Force (STF) from Kolkata Police and Bihar STF has revealed an illicit improvised firearms manufacturing facility in Bhagalpur district, resulting in the detention of five individuals, according to police reports on Wednesday.

The authorities disclosed that this clandestine arms factory was operating on the first floor of a residence owned by Md. Nasir Ansari, situated within the confines of the Madhusudanpur police station area. The illegal enterprise was reportedly masked by a spinning mill located on the ground floor, seemingly to hide the illicit firearms production.

During a nighttime operation on Tuesday, law enforcement apprehended five suspects, including a co-owner of the property and four adept arms manufacturers allegedly engaged in the illegal firearms creation.

A substantial cache of illegal firearms and related manufacturing tools was seized during the search. The confiscated items comprised 20 semi-finished homemade 7.65 mm pistols, eight pistol barrels, a lathe machine, two milling machines, a drill machine, a grinding and polishing machine, a hand grinder, and a considerable amount of tools and raw materials utilized in firearms production.

The individuals detained have been identified as Md. Monazir (21), Md. Shadab Ali alias Saddam (32), Md. Aslam alias Tinku (41), Md. Samsher Alam alias Chotu (36), and Md. Shahanawaz (25).

Currently, all five are under interrogation to discern the extent of their illegal arms manufacturing operations and potential affiliations with organized crime syndicates.

Police sources indicate that this operation is regarded as a major triumph for the Kolkata Police STF, especially with mounting security concerns ahead of the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. Investigators are assessing whether there was an intention to smuggle these illegal firearms into West Bengal for use during the election period or for other criminal endeavors.

Authorities are also investigating if the arrested suspects were components of a more extensive organized arms manufacturing and distribution network, and whether there are additional collaborators or masterminds behind the illicit operation.

It is worth mentioning that the Kolkata Police have heightened surveillance and enforcement measures ahead of the Assembly elections to deter illegal arms trafficking into the state. Recently, a man was apprehended in the Gariahat area of south Kolkata, found in possession of multiple firearms purportedly smuggled from Gaya district in Bihar.

Investigators have reportedly garnered significant leads following the interrogation of the accused in that particular case, which has aided in intelligence regarding illegal arms manufacturing and smuggling networks active in neighboring states.

According to police sources, the collaborative operation involving Kolkata Police STF, Bihar STF, and Madhusudanpur police in Bhagalpur was executed based on specific intelligence inputs received from confidential sources regarding illegal firearms manufacturing activities at the location.

At first glance, the premises appeared to be a typical spinning mill on the ground floor. However, a thorough search revealed the hidden firearms manufacturing unit on the upper floor, thus exposing the illegal operation.

Ongoing investigations aim to identify other network members and trace the supply chain and intended destinations of the illegal firearms.
