Haveri (Karnataka), Oct 11 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Karnataka and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai stated on Saturday that the state's administration is currently crippled due to ongoing internal disputes within the Congress party regarding power distribution. He emphasized that the lack of clarity from the Congress high command is causing distress among the populace.
While addressing the media, he remarked, "Since the inception of the Congress government, there have been persistent disagreements over power sharing and transfer. Stability is non-existent. The faction aligned with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claims he will serve a full five-year term, while Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s group contends that the Karnataka Congress president will take over as Chief Minister.
"The high command appears to be struggling to arrive at a definitive conclusion regarding this issue. Internally, there are two factions within the high command itself—one endorsing the Chief Minister and the other backing Shivakumar. This is the root of the dilemma. Consequently, the governance of the state has reached a standstill, and the residents of Karnataka are bearing the brunt of these internal conflicts. Now, due to the state's financial constraints, they have opted for this alternative measure.
On the topic of BJP leaders boycotting the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) meeting, the former Chief Minister remarked that the formation of Greater Bengaluru is primarily for political advantage.
"They have restructured certain constituencies and intentionally divided areas where the BJP holds strength through delimitation to gain reservations and political leverage. This strategy is aimed at acquiring power and will not contribute to genuine development," he stated.
He also noted that despite Bengaluru's frequent rainfall, no preventive measures have been implemented.
"The primary and secondary drains require cleaning, and encroachments need to be addressed. During our administration, we secured Rs 8,000 crore for cleaning major and minor drains and tackling encroachments. That initiative has since ceased. As a result, water is flooding roads and infiltrating homes in lower-lying areas, creating significant hardships for residents," Bommai concluded.
