Patna, Oct 12 (NationPress) As the dust settles on the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) newly established seat-sharing agreement for Bihar's crucial Assembly elections, a torrent of opposition backlash has emerged. Firebrand Purnia MP Pappu Yadav has delivered a stinging critique, branding Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as a 'political corpse', left to fend for himself by allies in a carefully orchestrated maneuver by the BJP.
In a sharp post on the social media platform X, Yadav, the independent lawmaker known for his candid remarks, targeted Janata Dal (United) national executive president Sanjay Kumar Jha, accusing him of plotting a 'conspiracy to force Nitish Kumar to resign as Chief Minister'.
“Sanjay Jha has achieved his goal today,” Yadav asserted. “The plan to eliminate Nitish is finalized.”
His comments, filled with dramatic intensity, have sparked a heated discussion, framing the NDA's internal dynamics as a betrayal of Bihar's long-standing leader, who has frequently shifted alliances like a weather vane in a storm.
Yadav's critique of the deal is both precise and harsh. He condemned the arrangement, where the BJP claims a significant portion of 101 seats, while the Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) – Nitish Kumar's troubled stronghold – is begrudgingly assigned an equal amount.
Yadav's remarks delve into Bihar’s caste complexities, where the NDA’s strategy risks alienating the JD-U’s fundamental supporters – the extremely backward classes and Mahadalits.
With elections scheduled for November 6 and 11 across 243 constituencies, and results expected on November 16, his rhetoric seeks to fracture the NDA’s voter base by portraying Nitish as a betrayed leader.
Congress MP Manoj Jha added fuel to the fire, questioning HAM leader Jitan Ram Manjhi’s meager six-seat allocation. “Does this bring dignity to the Dalit community?” Jha challenged.
“You claimed 15 seats were necessary for national party status. And Upendra Kushwaha, do six seats honor the Kushwaha community?” Jha derided Manjhi’s promise of loyalty to the Prime Minister, implying it’s merely a survival strategy to avoid being marginalized, referencing former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s alleged sidelining.
Jha also hinted at the ongoing seat-sharing negotiations within the opposition Mahagathbandhan, asking: “Will we finalize by Monday?”
In contrast, JD-U’s Sanjay Jha celebrated the NDA’s agreement on X, declaring: “Allies have amicably finalized the deal: JD(U) and BJP, 101 seats each; LJP (Ram Vilas), 29; RLM and HAM, six each. Together, we’ll re-elect Nitish Kumar by a landslide. Bihar is prepared for another NDA government!”
However, Yadav’s assertion that the BJP has relegated Nitish to a subordinate role is particularly biting, especially as the deal, crafted in both Delhi and Patna, leaves smaller allies like HAM and RLM with little influence.
As nominations ramp up and the Assembly’s term nears its conclusion on November 22, Bihar’s political landscape is heating up. Yadav’s barbs, amplifying dissatisfaction among marginalized voters, pose a challenge to the NDA’s cohesion. Will his fiery rhetoric sway the electorate, or will Nitish's tenacity endure? In Bihar’s unpredictable electoral arena, each seat represents a battleground.
