Bengaluru, Aug 11 (NationPress) The Monsoon Assembly session is set to kick off on Monday, with the opposition parties, BJP and JD(S), gearing up to challenge the Congress-led government on several fronts. Key issues include the tragic stampede, urea shortages, and allegations of misuse of SC/ST funds.
Prior to the sessions in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, the BJP and JD(S) plan to hold a protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue located at the Vidhana Soudha premises. This demonstration will focus on the government’s inability to prevent the stampede which resulted in 11 fatalities during the RCB victory celebrations on June 4, along with other pressing matters.
The opposition also intends to scrutinize the government regarding its inability to distribute urea fertilizer to farmers, the exposure of a drug racket in Mysuru by the Mumbai Police, and alleged irregularities in the allocation of funds to opposition MLAs.
Another contentious topic expected to spark fierce discussions is the Congress-led government’s initiative to divide Bengaluru into five separate corporations.
The Monsoon session is scheduled to last for nine days, during which the government aims to present 27 bills for approval. Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to devise a robust strategy to counter the ruling party's moves.
BJP and JD(S) also plan to leverage statements made by Congress legislators against their own government, alongside issues pertaining to leadership changes, to bolster their criticism of the Congress administration.
In response, the Congress-led government is preparing to defend itself by referencing remarks made by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the assembly.
According to Sawant, Union Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav assured him that the Centre would not allow Karnataka to commence the vital Mahadayi project. The ruling party also plans to emphasize the objections raised by the Maharashtra BJP-led government concerning the elevation of the Alamatti dam in Belagavi.
These matters are crucial as they pertain to the provision of drinking water and irrigation for districts in north Karnataka, which are considered strongholds of the BJP in the region.
