Ramanagara (Karnataka), May 17 (NationPress) Leaders from the BJP in Karnataka convened with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ramanagara district on Friday to discuss the suspicious death of a minor tribal girl, which came to light on May 12. They issued a stern warning against any attempts to conceal details related to the case.
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), along with Bengaluru South MP C.N. Manjunath, met SP R. Srinivas Gowda at his office, demanding information about the investigation's progress.
LoP Ashoka informed the media, "We have made it clear to the police that they must not suppress the case and must ensure justice is served. As the Opposition, it is our responsibility to seek justice, and we will continue to do so."
He remarked, "The victim came from a disadvantaged background. There are claims that she was raped and murdered. A murder case has already been filed. I visited the SP’s office to gather information on the matter," he explained.
"The SP shared various documents, including a video pertaining to the case. There seems to be some confusion within the police. To ascertain whether it was indeed a case of rape and murder, we await the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, which is expected in about three days. I have urged him to pursue a thorough investigation, especially given the girl's circumstances," LoP Ashoka stated.
He criticized the Congress-led state government, asserting, "Since this administration took over in Karnataka, serious crimes have escalated. Daily reports of rape, murder, and law enforcement failures have become routine."
"This government must approach this case with the seriousness it warrants, considering the victim's social background," he emphasized.
"There are also reports that the girl had a hearing impairment. Numerous doubts exist surrounding the case, and her family insists that it was a rape and murder. Police have detained several suspects and are in the process of gathering information, having also recovered CCTV footage relevant to the case," he added.
"I have instructed the police to expedite the FSL report and to ensure justice for the victim, who hailed from a humble background. Public confidence in this government has eroded. Congress leaders are acting independently at district and taluk levels, behaving like Home Ministers," he concluded.
The girl's body, an 8th-grade student, was discovered abandoned in a semi-nude state on railway tracks near Bhadrapur on Monday.
Following the analysis of CCTV footage, police have apprehended three suspects and are currently questioning them.
Multiple injuries were observed on the girl’s body.
Initial examinations showed no indications of sexual assault, yet authorities await forensic validation.
She had returned to her village for summer break and disappeared after attending a birthday celebration.
Her family and relatives claim she was raped and murdered.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar visited the victim's home, provided a cheque for Rs 4.62 lakh, and assured the family of justice.
